Welcome!

Compelling evidence confirms what parents have always known—highly qualified teachers make a critical difference in their blind child’s education. However, at the very time qualified teachers are most needed, schools and rehabilitation centers are reporting great difficulty in finding and/or maintaining excellent teaching staffs. The same observation has been made regarding the influence of qualified instructors in adult rehabilitation programs. The result is a growing national shortage of skilled teachers to work with blind or visually impaired (BVI) students and adults.

Hadley’s 3,000 professional students have asked that we provide more online distance education opportunities. These professionals overwhelmingly request that Hadley expand its online resources for career advancement, continuing education credit (CEC) programs and a BVI-focused online teaching curriculum.

In response, Hadley has reinforced its commitment to the continued growth of its course selection by offering superior, fully-accredited programs for professional development. The new courses are designed to meet the demands of professionals who actively work with BVI individuals. With the support of our donors and a modest tuition, Hadley will offer the most challenging and relevant programs for current and aspiring teachers of BVI youths and adults, thereby affording these teachers the power to grow professionally through distance education.

Teaching is the essential ingredient that enables BVI students to acquire the skills and confidence they need to assume their rightful place as participating and contributing members of the community. The Hadley School for the Blind is prepared to offer the educational excellence required to make this happen.

Sincerely,
