Meet Artist Jennifer James

Artist: Jennifer JamesHadley's 2017 Braille Holiday Card art was created by Chicago mixed-media artist Jennifer James, who has been following creative paths all her life.

An award-winning designer, creative director and photographer, Jennifer joined Hadley in 2014. Along with designing the new Hadley Institute logo, she led the design process for the organization's rebrand in 2016. Recently, her artwork was chosen to represent Ravinia Festival's 2015 concert season.

"I'm proud to be part of Hadley," says Jennifer. "The people I have met through Hadley — from staff, faculty and donors, to Trustees, Woman's Board members and students — have inspired me in many ways. I'm thrilled to support Hadley with the 2017 Holiday Card design."

Over the years, Jennifer has made an effort to have creative endeavors that are separate from her work as a designer and to stay connected to her Fine Art roots. These explorations evolved into mixed-media pieces. She approaches each new piece using a palette composed of a variety of materials including canvas, vintage photographs and books, acrylics, inks and handmade papers — transforming old objects into new art.

Originally from St. Louis, Jennifer graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a BFA in Visual Art and Graphic Design and a minor in Literature. She lives in Chicago with her husband, Patrick Quinn, and in her spare time teaches art workshops and shows her work at art festivals and exhibitions.
