Macintosh Snow Leopard Voice Over Keyboard Commands

You use the Control and Option keys (the VoiceOver keys, or VO) with other keys to control VoiceOver. If you have a portable computer, you may need to press the Fn key when you press a function key.

General Action Commands

Lock and unlock the Control and Option keys VO-semicolon (;)
Turn VoiceOver on and off Command-F5
Open the VoiceOver menu VO-F7
Open VoiceOver Help VO-question mark (?)
Get help for an item VO-H
Open the Commands menu for an item VO-H two times
Open VoiceOver Utility VO-F8
Open VoiceOver Quick Start VO-Command-F8
Start keyboard help VO-K
Close a menu, stop an action, or exit a mode VO-Escape (Esc)
Tell VoiceOver to ignore the next key combination you press VO-Tab
Change the speech rate, pitch, volume, or to move to the next or previous setting (rate, then pitch, then volume, then intonation). VO-Command-Right Arrow or VO- Left Arrow. Then press VO-Command-Up Arrow to increase and VO-Command-Down Arrow to decrease the setting.
Change the amount of detail (verbosity) you hear for typing echo, punctuation, text attributes, capitals, deleted characters, numbers, links, and table headers VO-V. Then press the Left Arrow or Right Arrow key to. choose the setting: typing echo, punctuation, and so on. Use the Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys to change the level for the setting. Press the Escape key to leave this mode.
Magnify the item in the VoiceOver cursor VO-right brace ( } )
Shrink the item in the VoiceOver cursor VO-left brace ( { )
Temporarily hide or show the VoiceOver cursor and the caption or Braille panel VO-F11
Dim the screen and show the item in the VoiceOver cursor in the center of the screen (tile visuals) VO-F10. Press again to return to the normal view.
Hide or show the Braille panel only VO-Command-F9
Resize or move the Braille panel VO-Shift-F9. Press again to cycle through these actions. Then use the arrow keys to resize the panel or move it. Press the Shift key with the arrow keys to move in smaller increments. Hide or show the caption panel only VO-Command-F10
Resize or move the caption panel VO-Shift-F10. Press again to cycle through these actions. Then use the arrow keys to resize the caption panel or move it. Press the Shift key with the arrow keys to move in smaller increments.
Increase the font size in the caption or Braille panel VO-Command-right bracket (])
Decrease the font size in the caption or Braille panel VO-Command-left bracket ([)
Turn the NumPad Commander on or off VO-Clear

Move to the top of the area, such as the window or text area, where the VoiceOver cursor is located, scrolling if necessary VO-Shift-Home. On a portable computer, press Fn-VO-Shift-Left Arrow.
